Justin Martyr was a Christian Saint. He is also considered as one of the earliest apologists of the Christianity. He completely believed in philosophy and stated that Christianity is true philosophy. The most common theme found in the Justin’s apology is the “Lagos Doctrine”. Here the doctrine means the “teaching”, and Lagos stand for “truth”, “word” and “wisdom”. According to the philosophy of Justin, Lagos means the “word of God” or the “wisdom of God”. “Justin is taking this idea from two places. The first is the Gospel of John, especially John 1:1–5, 14, and 17. John’s Gospel says that the Word (Logos) was with God in the beginning and that the Word (Logos) “became flesh” (Justin 76). Here Justin has used the Greek philosophy, which according to Plato Lagos means rationality.

Therefore, Justin is using the Greek rationality and put it together with the “truth” of Christianity. He has used philosophers, poets and other sources to assimilate them to display the wisdom in the teachings of Christ, his life, death and resurrection. “To the extent that they contradict the meaning and way of life portrayed through Jesus’s life, teaching, death, and resurrection, they should be considered untrue or unreasonable” (Justin 77). This displays that theory provided by Justin is very confusing and complex sometimes, when it intertwines Christianity with Philosophy. He went too far in comparing Philosophy and Christianity, by saying that the Christianity is true Philosophy, which compromises the true meaning and nature of Christianity.
