All Eastman students have the opportunity to take a wide range of courses at the University of Rochester and in Eastman’s Humanities Department. Apart from the musical classes, I have taken a class on ethics which I enjoyed a lot while learning. The class was very much encouraging towards the way ethical acts are performed and we need to choose ethical alternatives while doing different things. This has enlightened the importance of ethical behavior either at the workplace or at any institution or at home as well. Everywhere, people should behave ethically given the fact that they will always gain from ethical behavior.
It was good to learn how much harm an unethical act can do to some individual. I went through certain online case studies during the course which gave me real life examples of importance of ethical decision making (Peter, 1970). There is also something called ethical dilemma which talks about the situation in which an individual faces dilemma in taking decision which is based on ethical grounds. All these have been eye opening for me. I would love to have these kinds of courses apart from the regular courses. The regular courses teach about the topic which I want to have a career in whereas these optional behavioral and humanities related subjects help in understanding how to behave publically and what moralities should a person possess. Due to this, I have decided to have these kinds of subjects like Psychology, Behavioral Studies etc. in college.
