Sense of Belonging
To enable a sense of belonging, as an instructor, it is important to have certain qualities. One point is that it is important to be inclusive in nature. In addition to this, there must be sensitivity towards the ones feeling left out. Apart from these skills, it is important to value and celebrate the good in the learners(Krajcik, 2006). However, these skills add up to the sense of belonging as it helps in the development of competitive spirit amongst the learning process or to encourage stereotypical or prejudicial comments with the other groups. Sense of belonging is referred to as the fact that there is a sense of acceptance amongst the learners as value is being given, encourages and included for the learning process of others. It has been stated that the students having a sense of belonging in the environment of learning helps the learners in reporting and expressing their enthusiasm, interest, greater enjoyment and increased confidence in order to engage them in the process of learning(Krajcik, 2006). For this particular purpose, there can be enhancement of interpersonal relationships that can help in improving the relationship between the learner and the tutor. This can be done by two main steps that are enhancement of understanding and knowledge with each other, and to pay attention for the development of trust. This not only helps in the enhancement of relationship between the learner and the tutor. The evaluation activity of group work contributes in revealing that there can be effective management of learning process in a significant manner.
In addition to this, as a part of this particular task, there has to be an improvement in the relationship between peer students. This is also extremely important for the sense of belonging as students interact with each other the most being involved in the same learning process. These interactions contribute in setting the scenario for the enhancement of learning process (Krajcik, 2006). With the involvement of a supportive and caring attitude, there can be a sense of tolerance with an improvement in better working of the teams for learning process.
