It is believed by many that the qualities and the personality of the person is determined by the environment. The place where the person lives isn’t the meaning of the term environment. On the other hand, it is from the behavior and the words from the people around the person which shapes the person (Day 1998). This concept is summarized by an old Chinese saying which states that “one who stays near vermilion gets stained red, and one who stays near ink gets stained black.”

I have always been able to be with the good vermilion i.e. my parents and hence I consider myself as the lucky one. I used to get scolding from my parents when I used prioritize watching TV, playing or reading comics over my studies. I knew what they said was for my own benefit but still I rebelled them in many of the cases. But, being a mother she made me obey her by telling me why it was important for me to prioritize my priorities. Eventually, the rebellious part of me subsided and I understood why it was crucial for me prioritize things. Thus, later in my life without anyone telling me to do something, I used to finish what was most important first.

Another person who had a great impact on me is my father. When my father was ambitious and young back in China he was ready to formulate his own path for success. But, just because he didn’t have any relations with those who had power, he was assigned to work at a small village. However, from the first day he arrived at the village he was determined despite this bad news. He accomplished his dream later in his life over a period of time and he is at his dream position now. I wouldn’t waste the opportunity rendered to me by my parents to study in one of the prestigious institution. I would reach places where only a few can get to by using this opportunity as a stepping stone.
