The people of London were unhappy about the expansion of the legal royal system. As a result in 1377, the peasants refused to work for their landlords, the trouble continued to increase with the removal of the mayor of city, John De Gasborne, which was followed by anti tax riots till 1381. (Dobson, 1987, p. 123).
The era Richard rule has been the critical time in the Britain History, at the age of fourteen, the young king faced a lot of issues and addressed them as per his power and jeopardized to restore the authority and prestige of the crown. The revolt rose against the tax collectors in Brentwood, Essex, the King personally met the leader of the peasant Wat Tyler and apparently agreed to all his demands, and ordered his massacre and enjoyed the sight of killing of the rebellion leader without provocation. (Martin, 1996, p. 422). One by one all the rebel leaders were forced to death, followed by Tyler, Jack Straw was killed in London (Dunn, 2002, p. 139), Priest John Ball in Coventry and Grindecobbe has been assaulted in Albans (Powell, 1896, p. 39). Similarly all the leaders were being caught and killed one by one.
Many of the rebellions have urban backgrounds and were the dwellers of the town instead of common peasants. Some of them were having grudges with the local authorities, others were victims of relative poverty and some were influenced by the radical beliefs. (Hilton, 1995, p. 201-208). However the revolt was merely a voice that has been raised against the brutal King and his rules of feudalism, it may have been made silent forcefully, but wave of freedom, no matter being knocked down by the gritted fist, will later be aroused with the spirit to knock the cruel power down. (Lindsay, 1897, p. 176).
