Group Based or Cooperative Learning has been quite a popular practice at primary as well as secondary level of the education. This kind of learning is initiated and continued when students work in a group with a common objective or a goal. Due to a common goal these students work and link to a target and start working towards it. This way when they work together they tend to achieve the results in a positive direction. This is due to the reason that they share innovative and creative ideas which are shared and implemented. In this essay a study would be carried out to find out the advantages and the disadvantages of the group based learning and how it defines the course curriculum and is taken by the students and faculty of the colleges.
Group based learning not only helps in bringing promotion in terms of the interdependence among the students and even encourages positive interaction. They start taking up the benefits and materialize and divide the tasks among them to complete the group based assignment in the scheduled timeline. Students tend to learn from each other. Even if one of the students learning in that group based assignment will miss on certain points then assistance would be available from others for executing it. Group based learning is also advantageous in terms that it encourages active learning that motivates the students in getting them engaged in several courses that they would like to take up in future. When we will restrict our learning to ourselves then we tend to have a limit (Stephenson et al, 2013).
