With the coming up of internet, there was an increase in a number of users who used to explore GIS data through internet. This led to evolution of Web based GIS technology and various mapping applications. It also helped in managing the ever increasing geospatial data. By setting up Web servers, GIS information was easily transferred from one place to another (Peng, 2003). As internet allowed graphical transfer of data and its ever-present nature allowed the data to be easily accessed from various locations worldwide. However, it suffered from two big drawbacks. Firstly, transfer of geospatial data through internet can be very slow as GIS data involves huge use of graphics. Secondly, some GIS programs like Arc View and Arc Info required powerful computers and sites with expensive license to access which was not required for Web GIS solution (Alesheikh, 2002)
