Emerging market in a country is a market that has a lot of growth potential. It has similar attributes like that of a developed market; however, it does not meet the parameters to define it as a developed market. The attributes that make the market of a country an emerging market is the percentage of poverty, the amount of business done in the capital markets. The multinational companies that are developed in these emerging markets are known as emerging market multinational or Emerging Giants (Rasmusse 2012). Based on these parameters, South Korea can be defined as an emerging market and Samsung in South Korea is an emerging giant in these markets. Conventional wisdom assumes that the problems and characteristics of the emerging markets are all the same. There is a tendency to assume that emerging markets are concentrated on Brazil, Russia, India and China. However, other countries like South Korea, Taiwan etc. are all developing in tandem with globalization. South Korea has emerging giant companies like LG, Samsung that are performing exceptionally well in the global and domestic markets. The Industrial leader Samsung controls one fifth of the economy of South Korea (Gamble 2011, p.p. 131). Samsung Group is a South Korean Chaebol (multinational) led by Lee Kun-Hee. Samsung has grown immensely in the past few decades and has been predicted to grow even more in the coming years. The Samsung group has a variety of portfolios. They were shipping, chemicals, financial industry, IT and equipment industries (Khanna et al., 2011). The growth of Samsung electronics and Semiconductors by the Samsung group, its internationalization path and internationalization theories that was adopted have been discussed extensively in this research.
