Autocratic
In autocratic style of leadership all powers are vested in leader of the group. Followers have no right to give their opinions or suggestion on a joint platform. Followers are compelled to obey the leader as in dictatorship. An autocrat leader does not even share his/ her decisions until its necessary.
Shared Leadership
It is a kind of leadership in which leader gives equal opportunity to the followers in decision making process. Everyone is free to give advice and have defined rights in team. Individual interest of followers has been given importance in this type of leadership.
Laissez-Faire or Free-Rein
Free-rein leaders are those who do not actually lead the followers. They leave the followers to do whatever they want. Instead of leader, subordinates and managers are given responsibility of taking decisions and implementing those decisions.
Narcissistic
In this type of leadership style, leader is self-centered. He/ she only thinks about his/ her personal interest rather than interest of followers. Such leaders exhibit arrogance and hostility. This type of leadership is said to be destructive leadership.
Toxic
Toxic leadership is a more destructive kind of leadership. Here leader leads his/ her followers towards worst circumstances. Such kind of leaders abuse the ethical relation between leader and follower
Patterns of Followership Relative to Leadership
There are certain types of patterns followers adopt while engaging themselves in a program as a follower. Kelley (1998) demarcated these types into five different categories. These categories are:
The Sheep
This type of followers is unmotivated and inactive. They need an external driving force for completion of task and giving proper input. These followers lack in commitment. A leader is required to give proper attention and supervision to these followers.
