The infrastructure of road transport is aging in the city and the traffic is running over the capacity in many important areas of the city. Same time, the area is growing at stable speed, with inadequate space for accommodation, which results in augmentation of the freight and number of passengers (Finlayson, Peacock, & Syer, 2012). The number of residents in the city is increasing day by day, which also increases the number vehicles on road.Metro Vancouver is situated at the cross roads of the transportation system. People travelling within the region or coming from different city has to cross through these cross roads. The growing population has led to worsening the situation of systematic infrastructure and congestion. The congestion problem may lead to greatly impact on the provincial and municipal agendas. This will also involve the debate about the economic growth, sustainability and livability in the Metro Vancouver. Most of the big cities in Canada and other parts of United States are facing the same problem due to infrastructure ageing and traffic burden.

Many of the cities are under pressure due to the growing population (Lindsey, Zhang, & Gómez-Ibáñez, 2008).The movement of people, goods and services has worsened the traffic congestion. The national investment of the transportation is over $120 billion, this includes the investment for repairing and upgrading the old infrastructure and forming new also. Though, the infrastructure in the Metro Vancouver is little young compared to the other cities of Canada. Many of the bridges, highways and road in the area are near ageing and working above the designed capacity. The responsibility of the transportation system is shared between all the levels of the government. At all the levels, the funding for improving the infrastructure is below average level. The current model of funding for the existing infrastructure in Metro Vancouver is not adequate.
