However, a flurry of events in the form of Apple buying the very fashionable Beats earphones that were featured as part of the Marc Jacobs Spring 2015 Collection; the introduction of the Intel Smart bracelet made in collaboration with Opening Ceremony and launched at the New York fashion week to be distributed exclusively at Barney’s and Opening ceremony; and the stocking of Google Glass by Net-a-Porter, the prestigious fashion website at a price of 1250 GBP, has triggered a sudden upsurge in interest in wearable fashion technology products (Losse, 2014; Armstrong, 2014). Experts further estimate that the market for wearable fashion technology, which is still in its embryonic stage and is worth about $3 Billion in terms of overall global revenue, is likely to reach a size of $170 Billion by 2020 (Holmes, 2014; Van Someren, 2014). Therefore given this interest, it is fair to assume that wearable fashion technology products are perhaps going to continue to attract attention and perhaps occupy a significant portion of floor space in shopping malls over the next few years.

However, despite all the enthusiasm and euphoria surrounding the potential of wearable fashion technologies, other reports suggest that the excitement may be premature and that there are concerns with such technologies. For instance Google Glass, a wearable technology is essentially a mini computer fitted into eye wear allows users to access email; text messages; take pictures, record videos, and also access the Internet through voice commands, without having appearing as if one is doing anything other than keeping their eyes on the world (Gross 2014). Reports suggest that Google Glass, which was touted as being a cutting edge fashionable wearable technology, is failing two and a half years after its pilot launch (Metz 2014). Some reports suggest that one of the main issues with wearable technology fashion is that wearable technologies are also considered a cause for privacy concerns.
