Made in Dagenham was the movie which released in the year 2010 and depicted the status of women employees in the year 1968. The main character of the film was Rita O’Grady who worked at Ford Motors plant in Dagenham. She was in the job of stitching covers for car seats; the same task was done by many of the men too. The ladies performing the same job were considered as unskilled whereas men doing the same tasks were semi-skilled and hence there was huge difference in the payment too. The women were paid much less than men for the same task. Rita O’Grady who was also a union member decided not to suffer this discrimination and fight for the rights of the female employees (Colgan, 2011). She fearlessly decided to call a strike against management to end this discrimination. All the women employees agreed to support Rita in the strike and get their rights back.

The movie further continues with various strategies played by Ford to cancel the strike by dividing the employees, threaten them with respect to family and personal losses etc. However, along with Rita all the other women employees were determined and were not moved by any of the tactics of the management. Since all the women workers decided to work out from the work, the number of seat covers at fall short of the requirement. At last, the higher officials from the government were bound to intervene and solve the issue. They took some decisions which were not much appreciated by Ford, but were necessary (Conley, 2014). They made laws which stated that equal payment should be made for the same and equal type of work irrespective of gender.
