There were a large number of reasons for the issue raised on the general motors. The primary reasons for such a big issue were due to the improper management of the company. The company was managed like an institution. There were higher chances of risk in the company, they responded slower to the changes. First of all there was issue in the corporate culture by the company. There was a lack of proper management (Rupp et al, 2014). They didn’t equip themselves with the changes. Secondly, they management was the owners were slow to respond to the change. They didn’t concern about the implementation for the need to change. Even in the issue related to Amber’s death, they took the needful action after 9 years. Coming to the conclusion of such a serious issue shouldn’t take such a time. This depicts that the company had some serious issues with respect to management and planning. Planning is the formidable thing for the success of the organization. It is something which forms to have an immediate effect and caters to the requirement of time. General Motors on the other hand didn’t have en effective and immediate response, hence they faced issues. Thirdly, the cars which were produced by General Motors were insufficient. Closing of the engine system and non-opening of the air bags can directly cost someone’s life (Carroll et al, 2014). This was the major issue and was something which needed immediate attention. Though general motors didn’t made changes in their system for 9 long years. This is the era when the speed of the cars is becoming an important factor. But, speed is often associated with accident. The companies are trying to increase the security within the cars to such an extent that even in the worst of the accidents, the person do not die. Fourthly, the management unit of general motors was highly self-confident and dis-regarding. They didn’t pay any heed to the customers and the people who marked their mistakes. They didn’t look to meet the demands of the customers (Weber& Wasieleski, 2013). Fifthly, General Motors had considered themselves to be the masters of the automobile industry, someone whose position will remain unaffected. They considered themselves as superior to all the companies and they were contemptuous of the market competition.
